Body Search implemented at KWL
- July 13, 2009 -

All Users of the KWL Facility Body Search Implementation at Port Bustamante

Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) advises all users of the facility of the implementation of a Body Search Policy that will take effect on Monday, July 13, 2009. This policy is being implemented in an effort to combat the use of the Seaports by criminals to traffic drugs, illegal firearms and ammunition and is mandated by the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ).

Body Searches will be carried out by Port employed Security Personnel and will be MANDATORY at the gangway of all vessels and random at the vehicular and pedestrian entrances to the KWL facility.

Persons who do not comply with Security personnel at the entrances to the facility and gangway of vessels will be denied access.

The usual cooperation of all Port Stakeholders and users of the facility is anticipated as we enhance our systems to help combat the use of the Port in the trafficking of illegal and prohibited items. In so doing, we will help ensure that Jamaican Seaports remain viable locations for vessels that go on international voyages.
